The Lab Safety team is integral to the Lab Compliance team within the broader framework of Quality Management and Global Lab Management. We aim to establish a globally aligned Lab Management team that delivers operational excellence while adapting to local requirements. The Role - Senior Lab Safety Associate

The Lab Safety Associate is responsible for ensuring the safety of the organization’s employees and other individuals who may be affected by its operations. They must ensure that everyone in the lab follows proper procedures to avoid accidents. Safety associates also commonly conduct training sessions to teach employees how to operate equipment safely or handle hazardous materials. The Lab Safety Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our laboratory operations. This position involves providing expert guidance on safety-related matters, conducting audits and inspections, responding to emergencies, and fostering a safety culture within the organization. The Lab Safety Associate will work closely with the Lab Safety Assistants and other team members to achieve the team's objectives and uphold the highest safety standards.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of a Lab Safety associate are:

  • Serve as a safety resource for the company, providing support and guidance to employees on safety-related topics.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspect laboratories, equipment, and work areas to identify potential hazards.
  • Responding to spills and emergencies in the lab.
  • Co-investigate accidents and incidents, determine root causes, and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety audits, investigations, and training.
  • Co-develop and deliver safety-related training programs to employees.
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety plans and procedures.
  • Work with the Lab Safety Assistants to fulfill the teams’ objectives.

Requirements

  • You have completed a (secondary) safety study (MVK), higher safety study (HVK), Occupational Hygiene (Arbeidshygiëne, AH or mAH), or relevant related education or are willing to get this degree.
  • You have at least one year of experience in a previous position in a lab environment or similar.
  • Good language skills in Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in performing safety inspections and quality audits.

Moreover, you meet the following professional requirements

  • Morally motivated to improve safety in a company and have a high safety standard.
  • Ability to be proactive, enthusiastic, and goal-orientated.
  • A team player with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders (e.g., other Lab Workers and managers) to support the Lab Compliance Group.
  • Safety Strong communication skills - both oral and written.
